The Forum is dead. Long live the Forum!

As you can see from the dates we have a very active group of authors! Ok sarcasim aside it has been quite an upheaval this year. I have moved house, had lots of problems with my internet connection, got that sorted and the Forum went down.

We have had a forum with www.gossiping.net since 2005 and this has proved to be a great service up until the last few months. First the site went down for a few hours for an update to phpBB 3, the few hours actually lasted a month and a half! During this period not one email was sent to inform that the service would be unavailable or for how long. The Forum did come back online and all was well until the afternoon of 17th July when our Forum (76sog.gossiping.net) was replaced by this site! I have emailed them using the only address that I could find for them (their contacts page doesn't work), one that they sent to me asking if I would sponsor one of their wives/girlfriends in the Race for Life. This is the only time I have had an email from them apart from the automated ones regarding the setup of the forum. Anyway I had emailed them on Monday and have yet to hear back, of course I have no guarantee that the email address still exists. I am assuming that it is live as I have had no bounce messages to indicate otherwise.

The real kicker for me was that I had decided that to be on the safe side I would back up all of my user account names and emails, so that I could setup a new Forum if need be, unfortunately I was going to do this on Friday! Leason I think has hit home quite hard. I will be using xFire, Steam, emails, phone calls and word of mouth over the next few weeks to rally the troops.

I think that I have found a suitable replacement Forum host in www.freeforums.org I have read a few customer reviews of the site and a couple of our group have used it to setup Forums for their other gaming groups. Namely Starwars Galaxies and Lord of the Rings Online. Stay tuned as the 76th are coming back.
